Ted's vision for A Dog’s Life of Chesterland never changed since its founding in 2004, to offer the best foods available for all dogs and cats and to meet the individual needs of dogs and cats with special needs and compromises. Although the dog and cat foods which we choose to include in our inventory may have varied over the years, we continue to select products based on the following criteria:

  1. Learn as much as possible about the manufacturer and place special emphasis on the manufacturers sourcing of ingredient materials, especially the protein (animal or fish sourcing).
  2. Analyze the ingredients listed with particular attention to the use of protein and protein meal, use of multiple protein and the selection of vegetable carbohydrates and grain types and percentages if grain is present.
  3. Selection of at least two quality product choices in any given protein. It is extremely important in meeting the special protein needs of dogs and cats, especially those with allergenic compromises, to be able to offer more than one food of comparable quality. No individual food regardless of quality or specific benefit may feed well for every dog or cat, and being able to offer an alternative of equal quality can be important.
  4. Whenever possible adding choices that offer customers various cost levels without jeopardizing basic quality.
  5. Continuing at all times to stay informed as changes in ownership, food formulas and food sourcing may change at any time.

It is our belief that before suggesting any given food or group of foods as much information regarding the dog or cat as possible should be gathered and considered. This includes age, past history of nutrition, specific compromises and treatments (if any) that have been used to date and general life style of the dog based on activities.
A Dog’s Life will never promote any given food but we endeavor to understand your dog’s needs, maintain great care in the products and brands we offer and make educated suggestions of food and supplement choices in the best interest of your dog or cat.
